The reason he's a dirtball is because he posts them as "official bootlegs ". THEY ARE NOT OFFICIAL BOOTLEGS. If Maarten posted them as "Bootleg Downsampled to 130kbp Files", I think everyone would be fine and just leave those files un-downloaded, because it's better to go without than to download his garbage. Firstly, you make a very poor argument, regardless of the bitrate, whether they are down sampled or not they are still OFFICIAL BOOTLEGS. The term 'Official bootlegs', refers to the SOURCE of the recording not the bitrate they are offered in.
Secondly, please stop with the abusive comments. We know you consider the m4a's poor quality but you don't speak for everyone.
Thirdly, no-one is a rotten human-being for offering something that you don't like.

"OFFICIAL BOOTLEGS" are not offered at 130kpb bitrate. Try as you may, they're just not! The guy is a PIECE OF SHIT for downsampling and labeling them "OFFICIAL BOOTLEGS". There is no arguing that. It's like taking Coca-Cola, watering it down with 50% water and selling it as Coca-Cola.... IT'S NOT COCA-COLA IF YOU WATER IT DOWN 50%! The guy is slime! God Bless!

I don't know what you don't understand.
The original uploader is labeling them Official Bootlegs because they are the official bootlegs.
For example, I can covert the FLAC to a lower bitrate and listen to it on my phone with headphones on AND IT WILL STILL BE THE OFFICIAL BOOTLEG. Will it sound the same as the FLAC on a high quality stereo? - No of course not, but I am still listening to the 'official bootleg'.
The official bootleg series refers to a professionally recorded and mixed concert released by Pearl Jam. What bitrate it is in when shared by someone on the internet does not negate that it is SOURCED form the 'Official Bootleg'.
The original uploader is offering a version of the Official Bootleg at a 'smaller digital footprint' for people who don't care that it is not in FLAC.

While I’ll agree FLAC is preferred and can be down sampled to one’s liking, this really doesn’t warrant any of the comments or tones regarding whomever is disappointed to what they’re gathering for free. Really no need to be hostile. The point could have been addressed without all the hostility.
Everyone: The easiest way to solve this is for when someone posts a show in FLAC, just say you are posting the show in FLAC and it will probably sound better than the M4a version. Let the person downloading the show decide which one is best. Let's not be so negative and appreciate the fact that we are getting all these shows because some people are be being generous enough to upload them!

Let’s be honest - what most people want is a 320kbps rip of these boots - if audiophiles like myself want FLACS, we’ll get it, buy it, find it, or hugely appreciate whoever rips a FLAC or FLACHD. Whilst others may appreciate the downconverted or streamrips, the frustration is it delays MASSIVELY decent quality files appearing online. We know these lower rips get shared across multiple platforms which unfortunately adds to the frustration.
Let’s try and be kind, tough world out there at the mo but thankfully there are some really good people offering out Flacs which will always be appreciated.

If Maarten would just be honest and post them as "DOWN-SAMPLED VERSION OF OFFICIAL BOOT" everyone would know what he was posting, and could decide for themselves. But he doesn't do that! He invades every PJ board online, and he cons as many great PJ fans as he can! It's so easy AND THE RIGHT THING TO DO to just be honest ... but he chooses to be a scumbag, here and elsewhere.
Just a heads up, this FLAC is fake! It's re-encoded from the low quality m4a files.

So,
maybe the person(s) have a NUGS streaming service and can capture the streams but only in m4a lower bitrate to make them available here. That's still generous and good for the rest of us. I acknowldge that the quality may not be the best and hope for others who can afford it to make mp3/flac or flacHD available too.
what's now concerning me is that after all the flac uproar it is alleged that the flacs turning up now are re encoded m4as, which clearly is a further downgrade of the m4as. I don't know how to identify these and have downloaded flacs from all the European tour shows and have no idea which are legit flacs or re encoded m4as.
So thanks for those making any files available but no thaks to those kicking up such a fuss that in response we are seeing fake flacs now.
Ironically, with all the whining about the quality of what people have offered, for free mind you, I wasn't going to provide links anymore. But in the end, it wouldn't be fair to the great people in the community either.

heres an idea, don't get on this site and you won't be dissappointed. I love it. I buy most vinyl the band releases and the a few bootlegs but by downloading from this site I get to listen all PJs shows. I don't need to 'collect' them all but I have been able to hear every show because of this site and the great uploaders...SO
