Pearl Jam performs Pearl Jam's second single "Life Wasted". Following the taping of the show (The Letterman show is filmed in the late afternoon, then broadcast at 11:30PM EST), Pearl Jam performs a one-hour set for the "Live on Letterman" series of performances, which was also webcast on cbs.com. All tickets for this show were free, and offered to Ten Club members a week before the show. Ed addresses the unique event, opening with "If it feels special to you, it certainly feels special to us." At one point, fans in the venue hold up signs for "LEASH", which prompts Ed to pull out his own sign saying that they won't be playing it.
